The topside of an oil rig encompasses the surface deck of a platform, which includes all equipment for drilling, production, and processing. It also includes the structure itself, literally any elements of the oil rig which are on the “topside” of the water line.
The topside operation can include oil and gas treatment, storage and offloading, process support systems, as well as the living quarters for those that work on the rig. All components in a topside construction must be suitable to perform in the hostile environments experienced at sea. Topside constructions must be able to cope with a full range of extreme conditions from arctic cold, to high-temperature applications in the gas treatment process. Some platforms are floating production facilities with hulls much like a ship. To the untrained eye, they appear to have thick legs that extend to the seafloor. These legs are in fact the hull itself, with the platform held in place by the buoyancy of this hull and tendons (tension legs), which secure the structure to the seabed.
IPS Group and its sister company Maverick Valves have a long history of supplying components for topside constructions. We supply Pipe, Plates instrumentation and Steel beams and sections, as well as Spares, Fittings, Flanges, and Valves om Materials such as carbon, low-temperature carbon, stainless steel, duplex, and super duplex pipe, fittings, flanges, and nickel alloy are all available. All steels that are suitable for topside usage as offshore construction grades, for example, S355G15 +N/M and API 5L X52, or chrome-moly steel is also available specifically for high-temperature processing operations. All materials can be supplied to EN, API, ASTM, ASME, ISO, JIS, AS, NORSOK, and other international standards.
Our commitment to our supply process can only be matched by our commitment to provide excellent support services for your project. We go beyond material supply to offer our project teams expertise for single products to the most complex material packages. Technical consultation, custom manufacturing, material processing, and testing, inspection and even logistic services are provided internally or coordinated through quality third-party providers.
